Computer Programming - incoming or current Geffen Academy students only (Summer 2023)
Dates: June 26-July 14
Time: 12:30 - 2:00 p.m.
Prerequisite: None. This course is self-guided and students can move at their preferred pace. Students will begin or continue their journey into learning Computer Science with VEXcode VR Computer Science Level 1 – Blocks Course, Python viewer, or Python! Students with a variety of computer coding and programming experience are encouraged to join!
In this 3-week summer class offered at Geffen Academy at UCLA, students will engage in a unique multidisciplinary project, designed to employ programming skills. Students will use Virtual VR-code platform to code a virtual robot using Block-based coding environment or Block-based with a Python viewer, or simply use Python. The virtual robots are pre-built; use drivetrains to navigate the virtual playground, use sensors to help solve mazes, use pen features on the art canvas to code a creative drawing. Students will learn about project flow, loops, conditionals, and algorithms.
Students will learn about if/else conditionals statements, multiple sensor input, driving to a set of coordinates on the X and Y axis, location sensor, etc. This course is intended for students with some programming background, although students with little programming background should be able to move forward at their preferred pace.
