  • Taste of Taiwan

    Visit to Taiwan Academy
    The Mandarin classes went on a field trip to the Taiwan Academy in Westwood for “TasteTaiwan,” an exhibition of food and literature. Food stylist Anna Lee was invited as a guest speaker to talk to our students about her career transitions from Taiwan to Hollywood and experiences working as a food stylist for TV commercials and movies.  
  • Empowerment and Engagement Coalition Conference

    Students Embrace Diversity with Peers at Other Schools
    The 2018 Empowerment and Engagement Conference at The Village School was an opportunity for African-American young women from local independent schools to gather, share experiences and challenges, and celebrate their resilience, determination, and intelligence!

  • Hammer Museum

    Arts and Humanities
    Students visited the Hammer Museum several times in 2018. They were able not only to view and discuss contemporary work displayed at the museum but also to draw what they were seeing in front of them.
  • Retreats

    Community Bonding
    Every year, our grade-level groups take a day or two overnight at a non-urban location to engage in community building. As part of our school-wide learning goal of being humane, we are proud to offer these inclusive opportunities for our students to create lasting, durable relationships and exhibit kindness toward others.
  • People of Color Conference

    Educators Embrace Diversity through Professional Development
    The 2018 People of Color Conference was held in Nashville, TN and was centered around the theme “Equitable Schools and Inclusive Communities: Harmony, Discord, and the Notes in Between.” Geffen Academy supported six educators in attending the conference.
