COURSE DESCRIPTION
In this course, students progressively understand drawing, painting, and mixed media as complex tools that represent ideas and narratives. Students work from observation and imagination to create art that has conceptual depth while displaying technical ability. Composition, perspective, color theory, still life and landscape are part of this course. Students experiment with a broad range of visual concepts. Creative exploration, independence, and self-motivation are expected. Multiple assignments and discussions of historical and contemporary artworks take place. Group discussions, analysis, and critique are intrinsic parts of this course. Painting students present, critique in-class, exhibit, and create portfolios of their work.
