Jack Caughey

Ph.D. - English Department Chair & Educator
In addition to being chair of the English department and despite knowing nothing about magic, Jack is the advisor of the Upper School Magic Club.
Jack began his career in teaching in 2005 and has been a UCLA Bruin since 2007. He is devoted to the idea that writing is a form of thinking and not a tedious step that comes after thinking is done. He is particularly excited to be teaching a 10th grade English course on the genres of adventure literature, tragedy and satire; as well as concentration courses on Testing Culture, Creative Expressions (co-taught with I-Track) and Creative Reading and Writing. Jack graduated from Bates College with a degree in philosophy and earned an M.A. in creative writing from the University of Nevada, Reno. At UCLA, he earned a Ph.D. in English and taught courses on literature and writing. In his spare time, Jack has survived two avalanches and hopes not to be in a third.
