Ph.D. - Music Department Chair
Michael taught music in New York City public schools for 11 years.
He served on the New York State School Music Association Research Committee and Diversity Committee. In 2008, he conducted the Manhattan Borough-Wide Middle School Band at Carnegie Hall. Michael’s research focuses on diversity, equity and access in music education, and his articles have appeared in Music Educators Journal, The Finnish Journal of Music Education and School Music News. He has presented at conferences around the United States as well as in Belgium, England and Finland. He earned his doctorate in music and music education from Teachers College, Columbia University, in 2015.
