Black Panther Surprise Screening

Students were ecstatic when they found out about a surprise field trip to Westwood’s premier of Black Panther!
Although Black Panther is a super-hero film that should be enjoyed as such, it also let our students engage with issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This film offered an opportunity for students to exercise critical judgment and move beyond the stock response of "liking" a film (or not) by applying what they learned in their courses. After the screening, Advisory classes discussed race and culture from the perspective of the film's treatment of those concepts. Our students took what they learned inside the classroom and applied it in a way that enriched their aesthetic experiences out in the world.
