Art: Ceramics
This summer's creative enrichment course in ceramics will focus on bringing the experience of everyday life into sculptural form. Students will have technical demonstrations, brief art theory lectures, and technical guidance with significant time to develop their skills in rendering and artistic thinking to make sculptural narratives that reflect their lived experiences. The course will conclude with a group critique where each student will share their work and engage in a discussion of their artistic choices and what they mean in the work.
Art: The Painting and Drawing Studio
Painting is one of the oldest forms of human expression, used across history to tell stories, explore ideas, and respond to the world. In this summer course, students learn both how to paint and why painting continues to matter today. Students explore painting as a creative practice shaped by culture, identity, and social context, while also developing foundational technical skills. Through hands-on studio work, demonstrations, and guided practice, students learn core painting concepts such as color mixing, value, composition, brushwork, and working with light and form. Alongside studio practice, students learn about a range of historical and contemporary painters, centering voices often left out of traditional art histories, to better understand how artists use painting to communicate meaning. By the end of the course, students gain confidence with materials, deepen their visual thinking, and begin developing a personal artistic voice.
