Alexander Sheynis

A San Francisco native, Alexander, who as a young kid got lost in the joy of solving puzzles and was mesmerized by the cosmic possibilities when he first saw the classic Star Wars trilogy on television, immediately gravitated to mathematics and physics. It also certainly did not help being introduced to LEGO and collectible card games that fueled his desire to find clever approaches within the confines of a set of rules.

He participated in Mathcounts in 8th grade and a number of math competitions in high school, eventually attending the University of California, Davis, between 2001 and 2005, where he acquired a B.S. in both fields. After working in tech for several years, he left in 2017 to pursue an M.A. and M.S. in those same fields, respectively, at San Francisco State University, where he also taught a variety of classes ranging from physics labs for non-science majors to precalculus. From his personal experience in how mathematics and physics were relayed to him, combined with his fascination with making sense of a complex world, he enjoys breaking things down into intuitive perspectives.As an avid reader and cinephile during his free time, he sees the power in a good story, which he believes every idea in mathematics has. He welcomes you to join him, whether it is just to hear the tale or write the next chapter that others will tell over for generations to come.
