Josh Ranier

M.F.A. - Visual Arts Educator
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Joshua is a figurative painter, draftsman and graphic designer. He earned a B.F.A in Illustration from the College for Creative Studies in 2018 and an M.F.A. in Painting from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2025.
 
Joshua was an artist-in-residence at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP), a Portrait Society of America Certificate of Excellence awardee, and a Gilbert Fellow. His work is published in New American Paintings, the Brooklyn Rail, and Hyperallergic. Before joining Geffen Academy, Rainer served as an arts instructor at the Birmingham Bloomfield Arts Center (BBAC), where he taught a variety of visual arts courses to youth, teens, and adults.
