The course will end with a fun group critique, where students will share their favorite shots and explore the creative choices that brought their images to life.
Art: The Painting and Drawing Studio
Painting is one of the oldest forms of human expression, used across history to tell stories, explore ideas, and respond to the world. In this summer course, students learn both how to paint and why painting continues to matter today. Students explore painting as a creative practice shaped by culture, identity, and social context, while also developing foundational technical skills. Through hands-on studio work, demonstrations, and guided practice, students learn core painting concepts such as color mixing, value, composition, brushwork, and working with light and form. Alongside studio practice, students learn about a range of historical and contemporary painters, centering voices often left out of traditional art histories, to better understand how artists use painting to communicate meaning. By the end of the course, students gain confidence with materials, deepen their visual thinking, and begin developing a personal artistic voice.
Art: Printmaking Studio
Printmaking is an art form built on repetition, experimentation, and bold ideas where a single image can be shared, remixed, and reimagined again and again. In this summer course, students explore printmaking as both a hands-on creative process and a powerful tool for visual communication. Students learn multiple printmaking techniques, including relief printing, drypoint, and screen printing, while developing strong craftsmanship and creative confidence. Alongside studio practice, students explore how printmaking has been used throughout history to spread ideas, challenge power, and respond to social and political change. By the end of the course, students will have taken creative risks, explored new materials, and developed a cohesive body of work that is visually striking, thoughtfully made, and rich in meaning.
