Power of the People: Justice and Human Rights
Across the world, government decisions shape who has access to food, safety, clean environments, and basic human rights, and those who don’t. In this course, students examine how global issues such as hunger, environmental harm, migration and immigration, conflict, and inequality raise urgent questions about justice and responsibility. Using current events and real-world case studies, students explore human rights related to immigration, what wealthy nations owe to others, and what happens when national interests conflict with human dignity. Through simulations, discussion, and debate, students learn how difficult global decisions are made under pressure and uncertainty. The course emphasizes ethical reasoning, critical thinking, and informed judgment, helping students understand how these issues affect real people and how individuals and societies can respond to injustice in today’s world.
