Maskit Maymon

Ph.D. - Science Department Chair
Maskit has been a science Educator at Geffen Academy for five years. Her primary instructional focus and content-area expertise have been in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Evolution, and Ecology. Maskit leads the annual 7th grade research poster symposium at the UCLA Life Science Courtyard and plays a significant role in the Educator leadership for the student Jewish Affinity Group.

Maskit brings experience from UCLA’s Department of Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology. There, she worked as a project scientist, lecturer, and postdoctoral fellow at Professor Ann Hirsch’s Lab. She received her B.S. degree in 2000 and both her Ph.D. and postdoctoral fellowship from UCLA. As a military officer, she was charged with developing teaching methodologies and leadership practices. She teaches 7th grade science, focusing on Evolution, Ecology, and Environmental Science, a high school course that explores the mysterious world of plants and microbes; and a capstone that surveys the effects of the Palisades fire on the natural ecosystem.
