  • Professional development week theme: culturally relevant teaching

  • Educator participation in NAIS People of Color Conference (PoCC)

  • Parent education night featuring the Wellness Director and a discussion on mental health awareness 

  • Outreach presentations at and relationships built with Baldwin Hills Elementary School, Wilders Prep Academy,  KIPP Academy of Opportunity, UCLA Latino Faculty and Staff Assembly, UCLA Center for Excellence in Engineering and Diversity--Summer Math and Science Honor Society, UCLA Unicamp, Escuela Plus Elementary School, Young Eisner Scholars, and I Have a Dream Foundation of Los Angeles
  • Restorative practices training for ALL educators

  • Parent ed night featuring the Dean of Students and a discussion on restorative practices for student discipline 

  • The utilization of restorative circles with student body to explore and address conflict 

  • Founding of White Anti-Racist affinity group, faith based groups, and the student DEI Council 

  • The growth of the Intersections group

  • Community Times featuring DEI topics and speakers, including Donzaleigh Abernathy (civil rights activist), Sam Mihara (Japanese internment camp survivor), and Lawrence Ross (expert on high school and college campus anti-Black racism)

  • Family conversations and information sessions surrounding the 8th grade English book, Homegoing

  • Offer a Middle School Spanish Conversation class focused on the Afro-Latinx Experience

  • Swift and sensitive change to End of Year Finals plan in response to the murder of George Floyd
  • Founding of additional student affinity groups and renewed commitment to the support of existing affinity groups  

  • Founding of political ideology clubs

  • One-week student orientation with a focus on restorative practices philosophy and DEI in school culture 

  • Student Council and Student DEI Council partnership with Educator DEI Council in the creation of a DEI curriculum audit tool

  • Monthly Friday All-Educator meeting led by the DEI Council in order to explore DEI topics and principles as an entire Educator community

  • Upper School Community Time presentation featuring Afro-LatinX filmmaker Stacy Pascal Gaspard and a presentation and discussion of her short film “La Negra”

  • Joint meeting between Latinx Affinity Group and BSU immediately after the community time featuring Stacy Pascal Gaspard’s film “La Negra” in order to have a more in depth conversation about the film
