National Science Bowl Team Competes at JPL

This year, Geffen Academy’s Science Bowl team, accompanied by Dr. Ashforth and Profesora Kat, had the opportunity to compete in the high school regional finals of the National Science Bowl.
The team, Ashyah G-H. ‘23, James L-S., August D. ‘23, Nathaniel L. and Ty B., trained since the beginning of the pandemic once in the week, every Sunday morning, and over the summer.  After two Zoom competitions, they finally got to compete in person at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab in La Canada. Facing strong competition, our team did very well and had the added bonus of a private tour of the clean rooms where they were able to see among other things, the Europa Clipper undergo testing. This spacecraft will be Earth's first mission designed to conduct detailed  analysis of Jupiter's moon, Europa, to determine if there is potential to support life in its environment. The launch date is scheduled in October 2024 and the mission will take over 5 years to reach Europa.
